Microsoft Loses bid on Earth | Wednesday, June 29, 2005

For years now, I have speculated that after taking over computers, controlling much of online commerse, office applications, access to the internet (both as an ISP and with IE), and recently, video games, antispyware, and high-res image editing software, I have been waiting for Microsoft to put a bit in on MSEarth. Well, they've lost. For those who have watched the 2015 Epic, it depicts a battle that arises between Microsoft and Google.

This week, Google has taken a big step ahead of Micrsoft in their purchase, design, and recent beta release of Google Earth!

Microsoft may have claimed our computers, but Google has put a bid in on the internet and has purchased the rights to Earth while at it!

Here are a few fun links to various websites that feature the vocal stylings of a couple of our favorite Star Trek actors!

Nimoy sings about Hobbits!

Shatner: "Rocketman"

Shatner serenading Lucas with "My Way"

My favorite quote: "Live long, you've already prospered enough!"

Socialism through de-industrialization? | Monday, June 27, 2005

I recieved a link from Jessi about the affects of current technology on the industrialized society that has developed over the past couple of centuries. The article talks about how the industry powerhouse is starting to lose it's grip on society and that we are heading for a change. The article concludes, stating that when and what this change is will be a surprise to us all.

In previous posts, as my few frequent readers are aware, I have enjoyed bringing up Karl Marx and his thoughts on moving towards a socialist society. A very frequent and valid (given the general mentality of today's society) is that society, in general, could never let go of money. Well, lets face it. Money, as we know it today, has really only been around for the past couple centuries in order to better aid the growing industrialized society. Prior to this, power was controlled through barter, armies, land, and control of trade routes. Go back far enough, and power was decided by who could beat the crap out of the other. Capitalism holds a direct connection to industry. I think that it is more than coincidence that we are beginning to see fallout through greed and corruption of our current political systems at the same time that we are starting to see the declining strength of industry in today's society. As we grow to being more and more self-sufficient, but with the progressing development of technology, the next logical step seems to be power through knowledge, where those who can help progress society, as a whole, will hold the most control within society. In this model, I see us taking a step forward towards what may hit close to home with Mr. Marx's ideas.

Wedding Information | Saturday, June 18, 2005

Alright, I decided to create a website based on our wedding. I, however, didn't want to do the traditional "here are the details and some pics" website...I wanted something more dynamic. The natural choice: a blog! At the time of this post, I haven't added any pictures yet, but plan on doing so over the next few weeks (pics of us, the location, etc.).

Click here to check it out!
